The importance of rest days

We all know that commitment and consistency in your training program are a critical part of achieving your goals. Equally important to your overall success are your rest days. Rest days allow muscles to repair and rebuild, replenish energy stores, and alleviate any muscle pain or soreness. Rest days not only allow the body time to rest but also allow the mind to regroup and refocus so that when you return to your next training session you are able to train smart, adapt to cues that your body is sending, and ultimately prevent injury.
A rest day doesn’t have to mean being sedentary, although a day of total relaxation is always okay. A rest day can incorporate walking, yoga, or any gentle exercises that promote the healthy lifestyle that you are striving toward.
So take time to enjoy friends and family, catch up with work, enjoy a hobby, watch some netflix, soak in some beautiful weather. Whatever allows your mind and body to rest and recharge… so that you can keep working toward your goals.
