The best of January 2025
January, January, January…..not really sure why but this month seemed to go on and on and on. It wasnt really a bad thing as I had set a lot of new goals for the year and felt like I was starting 2025 off on a great foot, but happy to at least be able to call the month something else moving forward.
Best of January 2025
Started the month with an inBody scan. I pretty much stayed on course throughout the holidays, and had lots of gym time with the fam, so I wasn’t too concerned with it. However I always like to have a baseline….and the first of the month/first of the year is something that I will like being able to look back at as I start to reach some new goals. (hint hint…..if you havent had one yet, get one scheduled so you have a starting point for the year….you’ll thank me later)
I attended a sourdough bread making workshop at Bodhi Tree Bakery, a microbakery with an amazing home baker named Taylor Tierney. It was so much fun. She shared her experience and knowledge in all thibgs sourdough. The workshop lasted three hours and there were 9 women there. All we had to bring was a glass bowl….Taylor provided the rest, including delicious samples of many of her sourdough recipes and I was immediately hooked. The whole sourdough process seemed very complicated and intimidating so I knew that I would be best off with a visual and hands on approach as opposed to winging it on my own. Turns out I was right. Starting right out with healthy sourdough starter and a demonstartion of all the techniques was super helpful and I think is why I immediately fell in love with the process. I think the baking of bread strikes a cord with me because my mother always baked amazing homemade italian bread when I was growing up…..but this is very dfferent.
My first loaf was a huge success and so I spent the rest of the month feeding my starter and trying new recipes. I think something about my nurturing side has me enjoying caring for the starter but thats another story lol!
First loaf of sourdough bread
We really didnt have a lot of snow in Denver, so every chance I got I headed to a mountain town to explore. Coffee shops, book stores, antique shops, main streets…….thats my jam! I would never run out of places in Colorado to see and things to do, and winter is especially beautiful in the mountains.
Although the majority of my food is planned and prepped in the form of salmon, flank steak or chicken and a vegetable just because thats what I like. January definitely called for a little bit of comfort food. Like Lasagna soup….very hearty, and very delicious!
Just like everyone else I know, I started the new year with some new goals for myself. Many were self care related….personal growth and all that. I also have some personal fitness goals and love having a community at the The Yard Gym to motivate me and keep me on track!
Hope you all have had a great month….on to the next!
