Hiking: my first 14er
A fourteener refers to a mountain peak that has an elevation of at least 14,000 feet (4,267 meters) above sea level. In the United States, particularly in Colorado, these summits are popular among hikers and climbers. There are 58 recognized fourteener peaks in Colorado, with some of the most well-known being Mount Elbert, Mount Massive, and Pikes Peak. Climbing a fourteener can be a rewarding experience, offering stunning views and a sense of accomplishment, but it also requires preparation due to the challenges posed by altitude, weather, and trail conditions.
There is something about the mountains that just makes you gain perspective. Never can you feel so small and so big at the same time. Such a huge feeling of accomplishment to hike up any peak, but then you look around and realize how tiny we actually are. I had done all sorts of hiking, different distances, different altitudes, and loved every single one. I set out to do my first fourteener not even knowing exactly what that would feel like. The altitude, the exertion, the cameraderie on the way up as you see other hikers making the same journey. For my first I chose Mt Bierstadt, 14,065 foot high mountain in the front range of the Rocky Mountains.
We left denver at 4:30 am, and were at the trailhead by 6am

at the peak
Despite being only a 7.2 mile hike, it was very challenging and super exhilarating. The trail all the way to the top was somewhat crowded as its a popular hike, so we were never really alone which was nice for our first 14er. So thankful to have Olivia by my side for such a fun adventure, and we both cant wait to do our next one!
